n8n vs Zapier vs Make (2026): Cost in Rupees Compared

By Webhorse Studio Editorial Team

n8n vs Zapier compared with Make for Indian businesses: rupee costs at three volumes, self-hosting, ease of use, AI and which to choose.

Cover image for n8n vs Zapier vs Make (2026): Cost in Rupees Compared

n8n vs Zapier comes down to who builds and how much you run. Zapier is the easiest to learn and connects to the most apps, but it bills every action step, so costs climb fast as volume grows. n8n bills one execution per workflow run (or nothing, if you self-host it), which makes it far cheaper at scale, but it asks for more technical comfort. Make sits in between: a visual builder, a low price per step, and a moderate learning curve.

Below we compare all three on what an Indian business actually pays in rupees at three usage levels, plus ease of use, apps, data control, AI features and the best pick by business type. Prices were checked on 16 and 17 October 2026 and are linked to their sources.

How each tool counts usage (this decides your bill)

The three tools measure usage in different units, and that difference matters more than the headline plan price. Take one common workflow: a lead fills in your website form, and the automation adds it to Google Sheets, creates a CRM contact, sends a WhatsApp or email reply and alerts your sales team. That is one trigger and four actions.

Zapier: one task per action

Zapier counts a task each time an action step completes successfully. Triggers, polling, failed steps and built-in tools such as Filter, Formatter, Paths and Delay do not count (Zapier pricing). Our lead workflow uses 4 tasks per lead. If 1,000 rows of data pass through a step, that can mean 1,000 tasks for that step.

Make: one credit per module, roughly

Make now bills in credits. It says most actions use 1 credit, AI features can use more, and routers and error-handler modules are free (Make pricing). For this guide we assume about 5 credits per lead: the trigger module plus four actions. Your real count can be lower or higher depending on how the scenario is built.

n8n: one execution per run

n8n counts an execution as "a single run of your entire workflow", however many steps it has (n8n pricing). Our lead workflow uses 1 execution per lead, even if you later add ten more steps. On a self-hosted Community Edition there is no execution meter at all; you pay for the server.

Real monthly cost in rupees at three volumes

Here is the same five-step lead workflow priced at three sizes of business. We used annual-billing prices (the cheapest per month), converted at SBI's TT selling rate on 16 October 2026 of ₹95.40 per US dollar and ₹108.11 per euro (SBI forex card rates), and added 18% GST. The figures are illustrative: your bank's rate, card charges and plan changes will move them.

Price sources: Zapier's task tiers are not printed on its pricing page as a list, so we used the ladder recorded by Superdupr (prices checked 30 September 2026), which matches Toolradar at every tier both list. Make's credit tiers come from a pricing summary read on 8 October 2026 and match Latenode's. n8n prices are from n8n's own page. Confirm the figure for your exact tier on each vendor's site before you buy.

What the numbers show

  • At low volume, all three are affordable. Make is cheapest, and Zapier costs about four times as much as Make for the same small workflow.
  • At 2,500 leads a month, Zapier costs roughly eight times Make and nearly six times n8n Starter, because it charges for every one of the four actions.
  • At 10,000 leads a month, Make and n8n Pro land close together (around ₹6,200 to ₹6,400), while Zapier passes ₹32,000.
  • n8n gets relatively cheaper as you add steps, because a 15-step workflow still counts as one execution. On Zapier and Make, more steps mean more tasks or credits.

Monthly billing and overages cost more

Annual billing is the cheapest option on all three. Zapier's monthly prices are about 1.5 times its annual ones, for example $29.99 against $19.99 for 750 tasks (Superdupr). n8n says annual billing saves 17%. If you go over your Zapier task limit with pay-per-task on, Zaps keep running and extra tasks cost 1.25 times your base per-task rate, according to n8n's comparison page; check the rate in your own Zapier billing settings.

Self-hosting n8n in India: what it costs

n8n's Community Edition is free to self-host, which is something neither Zapier nor Make offers. You rent a server, install n8n (usually with Docker) and pay nothing per execution.

As a reference point, Hostinger India listed its KVM 1 VPS (1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe) at ₹599 a month and KVM 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM) at ₹799 a month as first-term prices on a 24-month plan paid upfront, renewing at ₹999 and ₹1,199 a month, with taxes added at checkout (Zoutons, September 2026).

The server bill is the small part. The real cost is the time to set up SSL, backups, monitoring and version updates, or a developer to do it. If nobody on your team is comfortable with a Linux server, n8n Cloud or Make will be cheaper in practice. Our website security checklist covers the same basics (updates, backups, 2FA, monitoring) that a self-hosted automation server needs.

What the n8n licence allows

The Community Edition runs under n8n's Sustainable Use License. According to n8n's licence FAQ, you can use it to run your own business, and agencies can charge for building, setting up and maintaining workflows. You cannot host n8n as a service where your clients build their own workflows, white-label it, or charge for access to n8n itself. If you plan to resell automation, read the FAQ or ask n8n first.

Ease of use: who can build what

Zapier is the easiest. You pick a trigger app, pick an action app, map the fields and switch it on. A marketing executive with no coding background can usually build a working Zap in an afternoon. Zapier also has an AI Copilot that drafts Zaps from a plain-English description.

Make shows your scenario as a flowchart of connected circles. Branching with routers, looping over lists and handling errors are easier to see than in Zapier. Expect a few days of practice before you are comfortable with iterators, aggregators and data mapping.

n8n also uses a visual canvas, but many tasks assume you know what JSON, API endpoints and expressions are. Zapier's own comparison says n8n often needs JavaScript expressions or code nodes for common actions. For a developer this is freedom; for a shop owner it is a wall.

Apps and Indian integrations

Zapier has the largest catalogue, at 9,000+ apps by its own count, and n8n lists 1,000+ built-in integrations plus community-built nodes. For Indian businesses, check the specific apps you depend on, such as Razorpay, Shiprocket, Zoho, Tally, Interakt or your WhatsApp Business API provider, in each tool's app directory before you choose.

When an app has no ready-made connector, all three tools can call its API with an HTTP or webhook step. That route is easiest in n8n, which was built around it, and it works well in Make. In Zapier it works too, but each call still counts as a task.

Data control, security and the DPDP Act

Zapier and Make are cloud-only. Zapier says it holds SOC 2 Type II, SOC 3, GDPR and CCPA certifications (Zapier). Customer data in your workflows passes through their servers.

Self-hosted n8n keeps workflow data and credentials on a server you control, including one hosted in India. That helps if you handle health, finance or other sensitive customer data and want to know exactly where it sits. Note that n8n Cloud's certifications do not cover your own self-hosted instance; securing it is your job.

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified on 14 November 2025 with an 18-month phased rollout (PIB), so businesses automating customer data should know where that data goes and who processes it. Any of the three tools can fit a compliant setup; self-hosting simply gives you the most control. Speak to your legal adviser about your specific obligations.

AI automation and agents

All three tools now let you add AI steps, such as summarising an email, classifying a lead or drafting a reply. The difference is depth.

  • Zapier offers AI actions, Copilot, AI guardrails and human-in-the-loop steps inside Zaps. n8n's comparison page notes that Zapier's chatbots and agents are priced as separate products.
  • Make supports AI modules, and its AI provider features can use more than 1 credit per action.
  • n8n has AI Agent nodes, LangChain-based nodes, MCP triggers and support for local models through Ollama, according to n8n. Because a long agent run is still one execution, complex AI workflows tend to be cheapest here.

n8n vs Make: the closer contest

Many teams that outgrow Zapier end up choosing between n8n and Make. On price, our table shows they are close at 10,000 runs a month. A few things usually decide it:

  • Pick Make if your team is non-technical but needs branching logic, and you do not want to manage a server. Its paid plans can schedule scenarios as often as every minute, against 15 minutes on the free plan (Jet Admin).
  • Pick n8n if your workflows have many steps, use custom code or AI agents, or must keep data on your own server. Step count does not affect n8n's bill.
  • Watch Make's credit maths for workflows that loop over large lists. Each item processed by a module can use a credit, so a scenario that handles 500 order lines can use thousands of credits in one run.

Checklist: 8 questions to answer before you pick

  1. Which apps must connect, and does each tool have a ready connector for them?
  2. How many times a month will each workflow run, and how many steps does it have?
  3. Multiply runs by steps. Is that number above 2,000? If so, price Zapier's tier carefully.
  4. Does anyone on the team understand JSON, APIs or basic JavaScript?
  5. Does customer data need to stay on a server you control?
  6. Do you need AI steps or agents, and how often will they run?
  7. Will you pay by an international card, and what foreign transaction charge does your bank add?
  8. Who will fix a workflow when it breaks at 9 pm on a sale day?

Migrating from Zapier to n8n or Make

Expect to rebuild most workflows by hand in the new tool. Start with the Zaps that use the most tasks, because they save the most money. Run the old and new versions side by side for a week, compare outputs, then switch off the Zap. Keep a list of every API key and connected account, since each tool needs its own credentials.

A note on GST and paying in dollars or euros

Zapier and Make bill in US dollars and n8n in euros, so your rupee cost moves with the exchange rate and your card's foreign transaction charges. GST at 18% applies to online software services bought from overseas. A GST-registered business generally pays it under reverse charge (TaxGuru on OIDAR services). Confirm your treatment with your CA.

Frequently asked questions

Which is best, n8n or Zapier?

Zapier is better for non-technical teams running small volumes who want the most app connections and the fastest setup. n8n is better for high-volume or multi-step workflows, custom code, AI agents or self-hosting. In our worked example, n8n Starter cost about ₹2,551 a month against about ₹14,522 for Zapier at 2,500 runs.

Is n8n cheaper than Zapier?

Usually, yes, once workflows have more than one or two action steps. Zapier charges per action, while n8n charges per full workflow run, and self-hosted n8n has no usage fee at all. For a single-step workflow at very low volume, the gap is small.

What are alternatives to n8n?

The closest alternatives are Make and Zapier. Others include Microsoft Power Automate for teams on Microsoft 365, and open-source tools such as Activepieces. The right one depends on your apps, volume and whether you need self-hosting.

How does Power Automate compare to n8n?

Power Automate fits companies already on Microsoft 365, since it connects closely with Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and Excel. n8n is more flexible with non-Microsoft apps and custom APIs, and it can be self-hosted. Check Microsoft's current Power Automate licensing before comparing costs.

Is Zapier outdated?

No. Zapier is still the easiest tool for non-technical users and has the largest app catalogue, and it has added AI features such as Copilot. The main criticism is cost at higher volumes, which is why many growing teams move some workflows to Make or n8n.

Is n8n free?

The self-hosted Community Edition is free to use for your own business under n8n's Sustainable Use License; you pay only for the server. n8n Cloud is paid, starting at €20 a month on annual billing, with a free trial that includes 1,000 executions and needs no credit card.
